LIV, ‘Wings of Love’

LIV is a new Swedish supergroup, made up of the singer-songwriter Lykke Li, the producer Jeff Bhasker and members of two indie-pop bands, Miike Snow and Peter Bjorn and John. The project owes its existence to vocal harmony: Lykke Li had grown fond of singing with Andrew Wyatt of Miike Snow when the band opened for her on tour. (She also made a vocal cameo on a Miike Snow album track from 2012.) LIV will apparently be all about the duets, and the group’s first song, “Wings of Love,” doesn’t disappoint on that count. A mid-tempo rock tune well furnished with strumming and chiming guitars, it recalls mid-70s exemplars of Swedish pop, with lyrics that lean into tranquil mysticism:

When I die
Don’t you cry
I’ll be flying by you
I’ll be riding wings of love.
